iMac
Mac model Windows 8
64-bitWindows 7
64-bitWindows 7
32-bitWindows Vista
64-bitWindows Vista
32-bitWindows XP
32-bitiMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) 5 5 4 - - - You should be able to install these versions. Do you have two separate physical DVDs, one 32-bit and one 64-bit? If you run BC Assistant, does it recognize your 64-bit DVD?
After you insert the 64-bit DVD, can you run Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility and click on the DVD drive. Does it show a name for the DVD?

Apr 14, 2015 3:14 PM in response to Loner Tby Rob Johnson750,Yes I have tried both the 32bit & 64 bit Disks to no avail using bootcamp assist , i can hear them run round the drive but it never picks them up. the disks aren't damaged. Obviously its windows 8.1 your spec only goes upto 8 is that an issue?

Apr 14, 2015 3:24 PM in response to Rob Johnson750by Loner T,No. W8+ is fine. Do the DVDs show up in Disk Utility? Your iMac supports dual-layer DVDs as well, so it is not an issue.
Can reset your SMC - Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support and test?

Apr 14, 2015 4:22 PM in response to Rob Johnson750by Loner T,Do you have an external Optical drive with a USB or Firewire connector? If you have another Mac or PC, with an optical drive, you can test the DVDs?

Apr 15, 2015 1:30 AM in response to Loner Tby Rob Johnson750,OK. I don't have a spare external drive, however i popped round a mates work & he can read the CD on his windows machine, as an added bonus i then tried the disks on his mac which is the same spec as mine, his mac picks up the disks, the only difference is he OS is still snow leopard where i am Yosemeti. This must be a glitch with Yosemite or something, is there anything i can do?

Apr 15, 2015 4:38 AM in response to Rob Johnson750by Loner T,You cannot use a remote Optical drive to install Windows. The test you did indicates issues with your built-in optical drive, not with the OS.
1. On your mate's Mac, create an ISO file, copy it over to your Mac, burn it locally, and see if your Optical drive can pick it up.
2. You can install Windows on your mate's Mac and clone it over the Network (or use a locally attached disk) using tools like Winclone or CampTune.
3. You can replace (or swap with your mate) the working Optical drive into your Mac.
4. You can also look at Bootcamp without Optical disc drive.
5. All of these require additional work.
