.Mac Difficulties

Hi all, sometimes when sending a message from my .Mac account the little gear spins around for a while and then I get a message that says something alomng the lines of "message cannot be sent using account mail.mac.com" Then it offers a drop down with my other account listed. If I click on my other account a hit resend it goes right away.

This does not happen all the time, I used the .Mac account right after that and the message took off lickety split. Any ideas??

Hi jambandbrian.

Go to System Preferences > Network > Show: Network Port Configurations, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

Mail Help has some articles devoted to sending problems, e.g. "I can't send email" or "I can't send email because the connection to the server on port 25 timed out". You may want to take a look at them in case there is something there that applies to you. Something that usually works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 instead of 25.

That said, .Mac is having problems lately (again). This time the problem seems to be the outgoing server. I don't know what the problem will be next week. Don't be surprised if the problem fixes itself after some time for no apparent reason. You may want to report it to .Mac email support.

You're welcome.

I thought it may be a .Mac issue because I am only having trouble
with the outgoing.

Well, that by itself is no indication that it's a .Mac issue. If you didn't have the configuration used to connect to Internet at the top of the list, that could very well have been the cause of the problem in your case. Do you still experience the problem now after having fixed that?
