Can OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 PCI Express SSD be used as the main startup disk in Mac Pro?

Hi everyone,

Can OWC Mercury Accelsior E2 PCI Express SSD be used as the main startup disk in Mac Pro? Or can it only be used as storage?

I am looking for faster read/write speeds.

Ask OWC for a definitive answer, but I think it can be used as a startup device.

Yes it is bootable.

2006-2008 Mac Pro (with model ID MacPro1,1; MacPro2,1; MacPro3,1). Due to an Apple limitation, any volume located on a Mercury Accelsior_E2 SSD will not appear in the "option boot" menu. A volume installed on an Accelsior_E2 can be set as the Mac Pro's boot volume through the "Startup Disk" pane in System Preferences.

SSD Blade Drive for "Classic" Mac Pro

Some people find that they have to clone or install the OS while not using the SATA III cards and then move the drive to the controller.

The system benefits most from reads and low seeks and latency.

The PCIe slot and mix of cards can matter as far as what you want to do.

Apricorn Velocity Duo is probably a better choice than OWC (and definitely consider avoiding OWC SSDs as well).
