Photos, Smart album to find photos with unknown faces?

Thanks, bro. I've never known about this feature before. It works for me.

1. Enter the name "Unknown" in the diaglogue, and press enter (or the "Continue" button).
2. If Photos finds faces similar to those you just added, click the button "Add and Continue".

This will influence the face recognition algorithm. You are telling Photos that there is a person that is looking like everyone else, and Photos may no longer be able to recognise the other faces of the persons you named, because new faces now may be recognised as the "unknown" person.

Jon-Eric's solution with search rule "Person is not %" works perfectly, thank you very very much!

It also finds all the photos with no auto-detected faces which I consider a feature: I made a keyword "no people", assigned a hotkey to it and filter by both "not %" and "Keyword is not no people" so I eventually will cover all the pictures with either assigning the names or putting new face circles.

I'm also considering another keyword — "don't want to name these"

I do have this question. I tried to add a rule "Face is unkown" but Apple presents a tiny menu with all faces randomly sorted... why is this Apple? You make it very difficult these days.

Leaving the rule "is not" or "is" empty doesn't show the unnamed faces.

As said another feature missing again from Photos, a simple one, or forgotten one to me (yes I've fed back to Apple), also the workaround of "is not.., is not.., is no good as only allows 12 rules, I have more than 12 faces...

Keep bugging Apple to add those iPhoto features that make iPhoto so valuable back into Photos.

I guess that is the only way.

While my entire database (100 GB) is now almost online I see so much 'features' I don't like or miss. I think I am going back to iPhoto and wait until Apple releases 2.0. Which is for Apple nowadays the more stable and feature rich(er) version of it all...

Here's a workaround:

Go to Faces and select all the face icons.

Then bring up info.

Add a keyword 'FaceID' to all the photos that have faces

Then you can create a smart album where FaceID is not a keyword.

Sorry what does this do exactly? I've done what you suggested, but I have photos in that part album, of for example, my car, photos with no faces (not un-named faces) etc in?

This leaves out all the photos in which one face is recognized and another isn't...

I did try this thing with Smart Album and a couple of rules "face = [NAME]" ('cause I have less then 12 faces...), but it doesn't work anyway. It does make a selection of all photos that don't have my faces in it, but not just the ones with a "no name"-face. Adding a rule with "face = [EMPTY]" doesn't cut it and adding a rule "face = no name" doesn't cut it either...

Hope someone has the one and only solution to this once so simple question in iPhoto...!

I accomplished this with Smart Album and criteria "Face is not %" Since this is SQL the % works as a wildcard.

I don't think this will tell me photos that do not have a detected face—just the photos with a detected face that has not been named.

I did try this one. But unfortunately it didn't seem to work. I got all my photo's listed. Not just the ones with a no-named face. The ones with a named-face were out of the list, but otherwise all my photos were in it. Also the ones who don't even have a detected face...

Has this been "fixed" yet, or any better workarounds? I email Apple every version release so far.
