comparing NVidia 8800 GT to ATI Radeon 5770?

i am switching out a five year old 8800 GT with two DVI ports for a 5770 with two Mini DP ports solely because i want to keep my 2006 machine and not have to deal with a Mini DP to DVI converter. basically i just want to be able to switch manually between my two mac pros and not have to deal with a converter cable. the old one died and would cost 100 bucks so i figured to make this move.

/anyway/ is there a way to compare the speed of these two cards or any other parameters i should check out and is there a way to determine a fair price for a gently used card? i can't seem to get a bead on prices on eBay and i got a ton of responses for the price i put up.

That is the best GPU for that old machine. They originally sold for around $299 from Apple. Be sure you get the Apple version. The only way to get a value idea on eBay is to look at concluded sales.

hi kappy do you know of they make 8800 with a mini DP? OWC suggested the 5770 to get mini DP but now that i am pulling the card i am realizing i am downgrading. i really wanted the mini DP for comvenience but if incan get same card...

in 8800 with mini DP it makes sense... ALSO do they rate these things in processing speed, RAM, testing,!all of the above...?

so i am guessing you can't get Mini DP with this card and would have to use a mini DP to DVI converter...

maybe i should just buy a new converter, keep the higher end card and hassle with the converter...
