How do I remove massive amount of duplicated files from iTunes 12

Hi, wow do I remove massive amount of duplicated files from iTunes 12 ? And I do not mean the official way given by Apply, because I do not have 1 month for just doing this since I have a lot of MP3 music on my Mac. Do I need to check the option of Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library and what does it do ? I noticed once I add them to Library they seem to be duplicated or something, how to delete the unnecessary duplicates ? And how to keep it clean for the future. Thx

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), null

When you add a file to iTunes the application puts a copy of that file (unless you drag it to the Automaticlly Add To iTunes folder in which case it moves the file) in the correct artist-album folders in the Media folder. That's what "copy to" does. For most people leaving the defaults checked is the best thing. If you decide to uncheck them then you are answering questions here instead of asking them. 😉

As for removing duplicates you do it the manual way if you are concerned about automatic/bulk removal methods accidentally deleting something the method thinks is a duplicate but isn't really. If wanting to use a bulk method the best thing is to make an archive copy of your complete library first, let the tool have at it, then store the archive copy for a year or so until you are comfortable nothing got removed that should not have been removed.

As for preventing it, I can't help there. In over 10 years in using iTunes I have never had it waywardly create a duplicate. While I am not saying that isn't possible I think you need to carefully study how you are using iTunes and adding media as the only duplicates I have seen were ones I know I created by something I did myself.

Putting them in the Automatically add folder moves them, so you should have no residual copies on your computer. However, even if you do it normally the original on your computer is not registered by the iTunes application, only the copy in the media folder. I presume that you are talking about duplicates as seen in iTunes, not duplicate files on your computer. Getting to the root cause(s) will take careful study of what was just done when a duplicate was created.

You do not mention anything about an external drive but that can have its own set of issues.
