Jan 19, 2016 10:26 AM in response to artist999by léonie,Will Apple ever fix their lame Photos App? Or how longer should i use iPhoto, because with this old fashioned App a simple Drag and Drop is working like from every user expected?
Use iPhoto, as long as you are using software that is not yet fully compatible with El Capitan and the way drag&drop is now working.
Photos has been completely rewritten using only the new Yosemite/El Capitan frameworks. You can drag & drop into applications that have been updated to be compatible - I can drag and drop into a new Mail Message or into an open Pages document or Keynote document. If an application is updated to support drag&drop from Photos, it will work.

It is.
As I said, I can drag and drop from Photos into an open New message window in mail to attach a photo, no problem. And Photos has a built-in sharing to Mail in the Share menu.

Jan 19, 2016 11:47 AM in response to léonieby artist999,Sorry, but i dont use Mail oder Pages. I use Adobe CC, Chrome, Office 2016 and Drag and Drop is not working.
For me as a user, how could i know, that these Apps have to be rewritten to hande simple drag and drop actions? Because i can drag files from finder in these apps with el captain. Or in between these apps. As always.
I just see this basic interaction as not possible and of course blame Apple, since they have shipped a product, thats GUI is not compatible with major apps.

Photos GUI is not compatible with applications that have been developed for earlier MacOS X versions.
Photos is the future application for photo editing for the new MacOs X versions. Apple left the previous application iPhoto installed and released a compatibility update for iPhoto, so all could still use it, while Photos was further developed and other applications still need updating for compatibility. Apple did the same for iWork and GarageBand. It let the older versions installed, while we waited for the new versions to mature.

Jan 19, 2016 1:39 PM in response to léonieby artist999,You nail it: Photos is the FUTURE app, when its GUI is compatible with major and most popular Applications like Adobe CC, MS Office and Chrome. And since these big brands with very new and update versions dont feel like adapting to Apples new frameworks after 5 Months, the photos app is a pain for the user and Apple has failed with this app.
What a pity.

Jan 19, 2016 6:12 PM in response to léonieby tonymusic$,What a Homeric step backwards. Toast 10 was so simple to use. It really was drag and drop. Toast Titanium with the "new and improved" Yosemite system is a pain in the neck, as well as other body parts. All of the extra steps are time consuming. The reason I've used only Apple products since 1994 is the ease of operation. I hope that this is not foreshadowing more "new and improved" products. What ever happened to KIS? Keep It Simple.

It is perfectly compatible with these via the media Browser.

Jan 20, 2016 1:25 AM in response to Terence Devlinby artist999,This is a very inconvenient workflow with much more clicks.
And it doesnt work with my daily case of:
- Making a photo with the iPhone
- Sending this photo (via automatic photostream wifi sync) right after that per Gmail to someone (by Macbook)
If i try to use the media browser, the photos made by iPhone in the filetree in photostream are not updated. In iPhoto they are, and i can just drag them into any application like the browser gmail, or facebook chat, or photoshop or word or powerpoint.

Jan 20, 2016 1:30 AM in response to artist999by Terence Devlin,What you wrote was
when its GUI is compatible with major and most popular Applications like Adobe CC, MS Office and Chrome
I simply pointed out that this is not true, and there is a way of working with these apps. It may not be the way you prefer but it is still there. I wrote to clear up confusion for others.
As for your example of the pic from the Phone from Photostream, that won't work without first adding the image to the Library, so drag and drop or no, makes no difference.

Drag n Drop is not possible with Adobe CC, MS Office and Chrome. This is true.
And if i use iPhoto, i dont have to import any image into my library. The pics just appear automatically in the photostream! I just have to drag and drop them anywhere i want.
This is a very simple and my workflow for the last years. The media browser is unfortunately no replacement for that.
If Apples Photo App would just do the same, it would be a nice product for me. Unless this basic user interaction isnt supported, i cant use it, like i really would like to.

I am just talking about DRAG AND DROP, the 30 year old apple invention, the simple and fast user interface interaction to move files
This is the thread title and my only concern.

The Media Browser allows you to see the library without having to open Photos and filling the RAM, And it is useful, if you are using our applications in Full Screen mode. Apple is investing a lot into making Full Screen Mode useful, since it first appeared MacOS X Lion, and users who prefer Full Screen applications, have no use for drag&drop between applications. If I can only see one application window at a time, I need to copy and paste or the Media Browser.
I never use FullScreen mode on a Mac, because I prefer to have several application windows accessible at the same time, but Apple is pushing the Full Screen approach a lot since a few years.
