TToday I was unable to open Tripadvisor and received the message "Safari unable to open due to too many redirects". Does anyone know what this is about and how to fix it?

Today I had the same problem and solved it by following dominic23's instructions.
Only thing to add is that you don't actually need to clear all website data. All what you need to do is to remove all data related to tripadvisor.com and its various domains under different TLDs (ex. tripadvisor.ca).
Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and website data:
Click “Remove All Website Data” button.
