My 2009 Time Capsule (1TB) is totally unresponsive

My 2009 Time Capsule (1TB) is suddenly totally unresponsive and there are no lights anywhere. Checked all cables and connections. iMac cannot communicate with it. Would I be right in thinking it is terminal?

Would I be right in thinking it is terminal?

Yes.. it is dead.. RIP.

However you can resurrect it.. the economics are something you will need to work out.. but I assume yours is gen2 on the bottom it will have A1302 as model number.. the issue is very clear..

You need a new power supply or to repair the existing one.

If you want an easy way.. just hunt on ebay for Time Capsule power supply

Several places on ebay are selling the old unused or refurbished supplies.

Installing a replacement power supply is not hard.

Is it worth it?? All depends.. how DIYer are you??

The hard disk might go tomorrow.. so if you can just use it as airport extreme (equal to gen3).. then it can be useful still.

Thank you very much for your response. The model no. is actually A1254 bought in NZ and now living in France! Ordered new 2TB since TM saved my bacon last year and the thought of the hard disk dying is scary. I am reasonably competent with DIYing and will give it a go but would be grateful for any advice on erasing/destroying said unresponsive disk if it comes to it.

2TB drive will add load to the power supply. This model also runs hot..

There are a couple of solutions.. one is to use external power supply.. look at the kits page in my previous reference or do a full blown repair job where you fix not just the power supply but the fan as well. The TC either need the fan running or power supply moved out.

Wiping or setting up a drive is no problem.. inside the TC you simply use the erase function in the airport utility.

But if the TC is no longer working then get a USB hard disk holder.. and plug it into the computer and use disk utility.
