Apr 19, 2015 9:05 AM in response to MacBeefby mario49,Hey MacBeef,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the mouse is not tracking correctly and is erratic. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues - Apple Support
- If multiple Bluetooth wireless devices are in use nearby, try turning them off one at a time to see if the issue improves. Bandwidth intensive devices could affect tracking.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a good one,
Mario

Apr 20, 2015 1:01 AM in response to MacBeefby seventy one,You didn't reply to the previous answer so we don't know if it solved your problem. If it didn't, try using the mouse on different types of material. I have used a fine, matt black felt base for several years without problems. I cannot say why it may not react to your previous mouse mat but it is always worth experimenting. Matt finish white or black cardboard is another form of mat. What you don't need is glare or reflective surfaces.
Please tell us how things are progressing.

Apr 20, 2015 6:58 AM in response to MacBeefby MacBeef,@mario49, I have no other Bluetooth devices around.
@seventy one, I tried some diiferent surfaces and I can tell, the mouse doesn't work on my wooden desk, it doesn't work on my mouse pad (where it tracked perfectly for over a year now). I tried it on my window board and there it worked perfectly! But that's not a solution to use it permanently on my window board.. and I also don't want to pay for another magic mouse. So do you know some other solutions?

Apr 20, 2015 7:20 AM in response to MacBeefby seventy one,Clearly you have to establish the mouse efficacy. Do you have access to another machine to test it on, or have a usb wired mouse to check if that works on your computer.
Or ... Can you take it to the store that you would buy another mouse from (if that became necessary) and get them to check it out on their machines. If it is an Apple shop, such testing is usually free and less likely to be biased.

Apr 20, 2015 7:23 AM in response to MacBeefby MacBeef,Yes, I usually use my mouse on my Mac mini (Late 2012). After it stopped working, I tried to use it with my MacBook. Same problem here.
I also used it in another room and on a different MacBook (from my brother), and still the same problem.
I cleaned the optical lens using a cotton stick, but that made it even worse. As I said, on my window board it is working perfectly, like it should.

Apr 20, 2015 7:44 AM in response to MacBeefby seventy one,It does seem as though it has met its maker. But this isn't the rule. My magic mouse has worked perfectly for four years and its usb predecessor for four years with only a little trouble. You may have to bite the bullet and replace it. If you are not happy about the cost, check out Logitech's mice.
The lens cannot be too bad if it operates on your window ledge but you don't say what substance you cleaned it with. White spirit is useful but only DAMPEN the cotton bud. Don't use it wet and leave for several minutes to thoroughly dry. One last thought, have you ever found your batteries corroded inside the compartment? If so, that may have found its way into the sensor area.
Otherwise ...

Apr 20, 2015 9:08 AM in response to MacBeefby MacBeef,I just used a little bit of water to clean the lens. No alcohol or something like that.
My magic mouse runs with rechargeable batteries, and I recharge them nearly every 3-5 weeks, depends on how often I use my Mac. As I said, I also cleaned the two contacts, so nothing wrong here with my batteries. I'm still hoping to get my mouse fixed, but that hope gets smaller and smaller..

Apr 20, 2015 9:14 AM in response to MacBeefby seventy one,I'm trying.
Water will not remove anything greasy or oily. White spirit, industrial alcohol, even whisky. Hope you have an Apple shop near you. Last resort.

Apr 20, 2015 10:14 AM in response to MacBeefby MacBeef,OK I cleaned it now with some alcohol, but that didn't change anything.
I think I'll open my window, take the mouse, and throw it out as far as I can..
