Your profile states you are running Mountain Lion on your MacBook Pro? If so, the resource below will explain some steps to try if your Thunderbolt port isn't working properly. Have you tried multipled devices in the Thunderbolt port?

I am using Yosemite 10.10.3
I have tried my 27" thunderbolt display and WD Thunderbolt Harddrive.
Both of these work in thunderbolt port 2, but not in Thunderbolt port 1 next the to power port.
Right now I have the Apple Thunderbolt display plugged in to Thunderbolt port 2 and WD HD plugged into the Thunderbolt port on the display, and that works fine. Port 1 is non-functional

It sounds like a hardware issue. At this point, I would suggest getting in contact with one of our technical advisors for additional troubleshooting. Or, have an Apple Store Genius or an Apple Authorized Service provider do a physical inspection of your display. Here's the link to get started:
