Connecting a SyncMaster S24A460 to a MacBook Pro 15"

I am connected to a Samsung SyncMaster S24A460 Monitor but wanted to know how can I use it as my main monitor when I close the lid of my MacBook Pro 15" with Retina?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want to use an external monitor when in clamshell mode. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
