Q: How much space do previews take vs. original images if I upload to iCloud. I have 24,000 images, using 300GB?
I have 24,000 images in a referenced Aperture library, using 300GB. My library continues to expand rapidly as we are digitizing more old photos, etc. The existing library changes as I find and edit very old family photos. (Going back to the 1800's and early 1900's.)
My goal is for my wife and I to be able to share the same evolving library on separate MacBooks. (MB Pro and MB Air)
I see that Photos will not migrate referenced photos to iCloud. I only have 150GB on space on my HD and cannot use all of it, so I cannot simply move all of my originals back to my HD. Thus to make Photos meet our goal, I would have to move the images to my HD in stages if I would end up with only preview files on my HD, not the full size images.
Would I only end up needing only the previews and not the full size images on my HD? Can I cycle the parts of my Aperture library back to my HD, have the full size images loaded to iCloud and move those originals back to an external drive as a back-up. The repeat the cycle to get everything to the cloud?
thanks!
