mac scree goes blank on startup for 20 seconds

After installing a recent update whenever I switch on my macbook air (OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3) it goes to a blank scree for approximate 20 seconds before the apple logo comes. Then in few seconds the login scree comes and once logged in the progress bar shows for another 10 seconds and its open. I never had this much of delay in the past. Can anybody help me out why is this and any solution.

Select Macintosh HD as the Startup Disk.

“Set the default startup disk” http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1310

Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18761?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
