Can I use 1333 RAM in 1066 MBP?

I am currently using Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 15' which uses 2*2GB 1066MHz DDR3 RAM. Can I remove them and replace with 2*4GB 1333MHz DDR3 RAM?

This model can support upto 8 GB of RAM but I am not sure if I can use 1333MHz one. Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

I would not advise it. Even if it works, it will be down clocked to 1067 MHz. That is what happened when I experimented with RAM from my 2011 MBP and installed it in my 2010 MBP.

Installing incompatible RAM will not do any damage to other components. How ever be aware that Macs are very selective when it comes to RAM and installing RAM that is not within the required specifications may not work.

The RAM that I tried the experiment with were 2 2 GB modules that came with the 2011 MBP manufactured by Samsung. This was RAM that had been installed by Apple in the 2011 MBP.

If you do install out of specification RAM, understand it may work and it may not. No guarantees. 🙂
