My new Yosemite iMac will not allow me to open or view many of my documents which were created on a Maverick (OS X 10.9.5) iMac with Pages (several versions). I now use MS Word and do not want to use, upgrade to, or buy Pages 5.5.2. Is there a work around?

Sounds like they were created with Pages '08 which Pages 5.5.2 can't open.
If you had Pages '08 it should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Use that and export the files to Word .doc/x format.

I know I probably sound like a dummy (for good reason), but I did find a Pages folder in the Applications/iWork '09 file which 0S X 5.5.2 would not open . . . "Pages could not be opened because of a problem." Without it open, I do not know how to export content documents to Word.
So it seems you have Pages '09, not Pages '08. That will open Pages '08 files.
Pages '09 should work fine in Yosemite OS X 10.10 so long as it has been updated to v4.3.
Select the Pages '09 App inside the folder and Get Info to see what version it is.
