I just finished a document and when I tried to open it to make a revision I get "The required index.xml file is missing." What can I do and why does this happen?

I just completed a document in Pages and when I tried to reopen it to make a revision I get a message "The required index.xml file is missing." and I am not allowed to open the document. What is wrong and how can I access the document?

MacBook, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

You have attempted to open a Pages v5 document in Pages '09. Reopen the document in Pages v5.

Not sure what v5 is. Someone helped me and opened it through Pages 5.2, through the program, rather than the Finder. Thanks for making a suggestion!
