A "Gray" lock appeared on a folder- can't unlock it

For some reason a "gray" lock appeared on a folder (which is often accessed) and I can't unlock it. In "Get Info" I can check "Share" but unlock is grayed out. I also, don't have permission to "apply to enclosed items" for "New Persons" (which is me).

Why did this happen in the first place?

Thank you for all your help-j

Hello, rgbnite.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I understand that you are unable to modify a file or folder on your Mac. Here are a couple troubleshooting articles that I would recommend going through for this issue.

About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature

OS X Yosemite: If you don’t have the permissions to open a file or folder

OS X Yosemite: If you don’t have permission to use files on a disk

Jason,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried everything suggested. I know how to unlock and share folders and discs in Info Window. The "Locked" check box is grayed out. Unlock lower right Lock> "Apply to enclosed Items..." doesn't do anything.

When I try to add "Administrator" or "My Name" a drop down says "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have the necessary permission."

I selected "Shared Folder" and doesn't help.

The funny thing about that folder is that I can't trash it or replace it but I can add and retrieve files from it??
