apple account login/password

I also find I am often prompted to put in my Apple ID password by iTunes; not every time, but often and with no explanation as to why. I suspect it may be because someone else in my family (we're all still sharing the same Apple ID) has downloaded a new free app or something. Or perhaps its confirming a connection to my iCloud account or iTunes Match or something. I know that's not an answer, but you're certainly not alone with this experience.

Try iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases. If your library is set up to display your iTunes in the Cloud purchases then it will check in with your account at launch time. Go to Edit > Preferences > Store to change this and also disable any automatic downloads.
