My battery on my MacBook Pro is lasting maybe 2-3 hours.

I have a pretty new MacBook Pro 15'' (latest addition) and the battery is only lasting a good 2-3 hours when it should be lasting about 10 hours. this is really a problem when i'm traveling or even at school.

Do i have the option of getting a new battery?

Battery run time is a function of the number and types of applications in use plus the energy settings. The Apple battery advertising run times use the words UP TO, not will and the criteria used is very conservative and not a reflection of real world conditions. You may try a SMC reset but do not expect a dramatic change:

1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.

2. Follow these instructions, or thesefor OS X 10.8 or earlier.

3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked

Enable Power Nap while on battery power

if it's shown (it may not be.)

4. You can also try resetting the SMC.

5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.

6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

My battery on my MacBook Pro is lasting maybe 2-3 hours.
