I can't find my pictures!! Brand new Iphone 6

Two problems. I plugged my iPhone 6 into my computer and got all set up. I synced my music and everything perfectly fine. After the first sync, iTunes won't sense it when I plug it in anymore. My PC only senses it half the time. Also, I tried opening my pics folder (\Internal Storage\DCIM) to find that it says it's empty. My phone is unlocked and I set it to trust this PC. What's going on?? 8

I'm using Windows 8 and my itunes is up to date (though it does freeze every time I open the iTunes store)
