So i bought a Macbook model A1181 and it has a dead battery but does power on when charger is plug in. The green light does light up but its very dim. I have test the charger with another Macbook pro and it light up normally. I dont have a working battery to test if it charge but the Macbook with a dead battery does turn on with the charger plug in. Anything i can try?

Try to install Battery Health which is available at Mac App Store for free and see current max, if it's quite small number of mAh, charger soon to be green.
Your best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a free evaluation.

Battery health requires 10.7 and i have 10.6 and i tried SMC doesnt work.
See the current Max by About This Mac > System Report > Power. If it's small number of mAh, you need to replace the battery.
Anyway, as OGELTHRPE says, make Genius Bar appointment and show them the circumstances you face with.
It said 4240mah but the battery is not charging.
