Blue tooth will not connect to macbook pro

Since mavericks my iPhone 5 bluetooth connects for a second then disconnects for good. I have tried several recommendations including taking the apostrophe out of my computer's discoverable name. Turning bluetooth on and off and a host of other suggestions. I don't have usb devices as suggested to disconnect. Airdrop works so I can use that but bluetooth should work unless apple says it is not required and should not work.
