Apple's Pages product is not the only Mac word processing solution available to you. By default, the new Office for Mac 2015 Preview has auto-capitalization in Word disabled by default, but remedied in Word auto-correct preferences. This is true for Word in Office for Mac 2011 too. The free LibreOffice (Writer) for Mac has auto-capitalization enabled by default. Any of these alternates has massive functionality improvements over Pages v5.5.2 on Yosemite.
