getting a drum region to loop?

I want to get a drum region to play over and over (is that what looping is for?) but I'm having difficulty. When I hit the loop button the playhead skips to the 16 bar and won't go further. Using the little loop icon at the end of the region creates a loop but again the playhead gets stuck. Actually I would like to get multiple drum regions to loop so I can jam along without having to stop and mess with the playhead.
