iTunes could not back up the iPad because there is not enough free space

Hi

I have been trying to backup my iPad (25 GB used and 31.3 GB available) to my iMac (8 GB ram and 215 GB available of 1 TB disk space) and iTunes gives me the following dialog

"iTunes could not back up the iPad because there is not enough free space on this computer to save the backup"

"Removing files and emptying the Trash will free up additional space"

So what is wrong?

I believe I have enough available disk space (i.e. 215 GB available) on my iMac

Please help

Thanks

Ron
