imovie 10 import puts all dates as the import date not date video was taken

I am using an imac with iMovie 10 and I imported an older iMovie folder called "iMovie Events"

All the clips are in a single event in iMovie 10, dated the day I imported the movies, not the date of the clips themselves.

How can I fix this?
