Runs very slow. How can I speed it up?

iMovie runs extremely slow. It seems to use up all of the available memory, even with all other apps shut down.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Please confirm you are running Tiger 10.4.11.

Which version of iMovie? How much RAM and free space on your hard drive do you have?

I am running Yosemite 10.10.3.

I found the latest iMovie running very, very slow and then went back to iMovie 9.0.9.

I have 4 GB of RAM and a 5 GB hard drive with 1.5 GB available.

I hope you can help with this problem.
