error message from macsupport.com

I was surfing on the internet, no place particular, with multiple windows open. I receive an error message that says my computer has been attacked by a virus & to call 1 800 313-2495, which is not apple support number. When I called I get a foreign voice with a really noisy bad connection asking me to go to logmein1.com. Which takes me to a page that asks for a 6 digit code that he gives me. I don't immediately enter the code, & he asks me if the file has downloaded yet. I hung up & closed the page. I'm just wondering if this is a legitimate site or if this is just an adware trying to sell me software or what. Has anyone had this happen? The pop up window looked somewhat official, but it also looked sketchy.

The company does have a website: www.logmeinrescue.com

It's a scam, see: A Browser Pop-up has Taken Over Safari.

You can install ScamZapper to prevent these kinds of pop-ups from displaying.

(Note that I am affiliated with that site, and some pages contain ads).

Odds are that message is a fraud and should be avoided.

You may be able to use 'adware medic' or other information from

thesafemac.com site to help be rid of the issue and symptom; as it

has been mentioned in the ASC discussions that such messages in

a browser may imply some extension in Safari or other browser may

have been at fault. Or the site can detect visitor computer type and

use your settings to allow their fake message of doom to appear.

In any event, those frauds are not the way to go to resolve their popup

or fake notice of trouble issues.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
