Apr 21, 2015 10:46 PM in response to AustinT&Tby Also Zarathustra,Hello AustinTT,
I reverted back to 10.1.4, to be back in business. Some other threads report, that they could access their library if they create a new user and access their library from within that new user. This is - of course - just some means to survive for the current project.

Apr 27, 2015 10:34 AM in response to Prab_by Peter mein Gott,This is riddiculous.
How can you release a software without proper testing ahead? Nothing of these workarounds worked for me... And I was stupid enough to blind trust Apple and update my libraries too...

You can't restore to an earlier version? Why? Because the restore failed or because you didn't backup your system to begin with? Or some other reason?

Apr 28, 2015 12:17 AM in response to Russ Hby Peter mein Gott,I have daily backups of my System on an external HD. I have the earlier version of fcpx, the problem is that my libraries are sitting in a very large RAID 5 system, and because of it's redundancy, it didnt come to my mind to create another backup for the libraries.

Apr 28, 2015 3:54 AM in response to Peter mein Gottby Russ H,The application creates library back up copies automatically approximately every 15 minutes. The default location is in the Movies folder in your Home folder. Those backups would not have been updated when you ran 10.2.

Apr 30, 2015 11:14 AM in response to Russ Hby Peter mein Gott,Thank you Russ, good point. I will def try it tomorrow morning as I get back to the studio. I have one question though. I've found something like 7/8 backups in my backups folder. I have two questions for you.
1) Does FCPX auto delete the older backups automatically? This would explain why so few, since it saves them every 15 minutes. And would make sense too.
2) Each backup weights about 500mbs. My original library, on the other hand, weights 700gbs. So, I guess the backup only contains informations about cuts, timing, colors (like a bix xml let's say), and will grab the original media, proxies etc from the original library. But again, since the original library isn't compatible with FCPX 10.1.4 since the bloody 1.2 version converted it to the new format... how will this work?
Plus: I've got two friends working for Apple. One as customer support in Ireland, and one as developer in Australia. Both told me this is a very diffused problem right now, and that they are already working on a fix... but it will not take little time. The second one suggested me the following method (which didn't work for me, but, maybe it could work for the others who need a solutions).
"Hi Pietro,
I would suggest, as most things have been done already, Restart Computer in safe mode then clear all of FCP X preferences. Restart the computer then follow bellow steps:
1. Open FCP-X while holding the Option key - this will bring up menu allowing you to select a project / library to open, or just create a new one...
2. Select to create a new one - but do it quick before the FCP-X crashes. You may need few tries...
3. FCP-X will launch with the new project. Once running - from the FILE menu chose to close that project...
4. Open the project from the previous version that was crashing before - you will be prompted to update it to the new version. This time, however, it should complete properly and you should be back up and running...
This is only a work around until a proper patch is released. Most of this is from the Apple KB and seems to be the thing that has helped most people.
Regards"

Apr 30, 2015 11:39 AM in response to Peter mein Gottby Russ H,You may get a dialog about saving it in a different location. That should make a copy so your backup would stay intact.when you update.
You will probably need to relink. If your media is inside the updated library, you'll need to go inside the bundle and option drag the Original Media older for that event outside of the library so Final Cut can see it to relink.
I'm not exactly sure what the maximum retained back up copies is. Somewhere around two dozen I believe.

Apr 30, 2015 1:05 PM in response to Russ Hby Peter mein Gott,Thanks Russ,
So, just to verify if I got it right and to keep everything in it's place and working..
Saving to a new location will create a new library but with missing media which I'll need to relink. Should I copy my media inside of this new library? I guess fcpx still needs to have intact libraries to work etc... my goal at this point is to rebuild the library this way, from the backup, re-copying all the media to this new library.
Hope it will work.

Apr 30, 2015 3:42 PM in response to Peter mein Gottby Russ H,If you open the backup in the version of FCP that it was created in, I expect that it will be a smooth process. If you want, duplicate the backup and rename it to avoid confusion; that can be your new working library and you'll retain your timestamped copy.
If you required to relink missing clips, close FCP and move the Original Media folder for your event outside the library, Then reopen Final Cut and price with the re-linking.
If you want to have the media reside n this new (10.1.4) library, use the consulate function to move it there. FWIW, I like to keep my media external to the library. But organizationally, there is a lot to be said for keeping it in the library.Post back and let us know how it went.

May 7, 2015 10:55 AM in response to Prab_by Arsenal1199,I absolutely despise everything about Apple right now. I am so furious as to how 'updates' are continually being released without proper testing. So angry with this brutal incompetence - too angry to talk any more!!

May 25, 2015 10:20 AM in response to Peter mein Gottby Also Zarathustra,Hello Peter mein Gott,
when I follow your trick to open the affected library from a running FCPX, it still results in a crash. FCPX 10.2 as much as 10.2.1
see:
Have you found some other workarounds in the meantime?
