Hard Drive Problem

After re-installing 10.6 for a friend for a subsequent 10.10 installation, the screen stayed blue. The welcoming audio of the installed OS could be heard in the background. Is this a HD problem or it is related to the logic board or something else? Permissions repair and disk repair showed no abnormalities.
