how do you uncheck keep sorted by date in the new updated iphoto

I would like to have my photos in descending order from most recent to older but in the new updated iPhoto I can't. the keep sorted by date is grayed out. the photos are right now from oldest to newest. In the older version you could choose either descending or ascending. can anyone help?

It's so strange to read through answers and comments from Apple staff here.

In the past, no matter where (Aperture, iPhoto, Mail, FCPX, etc.), I could choose to sort oldest first or newest first. Now I have to scroll down through more than 150.000 photos (in my case) to find the newest one.

NO, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY ****NO**** good explanation to implement something stupid like this.

If I can program that it shows the oldest ones first - I can also do the opposite - and that is what most people want.

I don't want to add an album first to find my recent photos. I want to have a swift look - and not some work before I'm able to view them.

Is that really so difficult to understand?

Steve, where are you?

No wonder you find it strange since you have no idea what you are seeing

There is no Apple Staff here as you were told when you signed up and read and agreed to the TOU - all posts are from volunteer Photos users

And there is an excellent explanation as explained by the users - each system album has a specific purpose and the fixed sort for each is to implement that specific purpose and users can create their own albums and have several sort choices for their albums

Try learning what you are posting about before you post to dormant (nearly a year) threads -- and try being sane and polite rather than aggressive, profane and rude - and ask questions

Note there is no New updated iPhoto - iPhoto development has been discontinued and a totally new application names Photos has bee provided including a translation path from iPhoto if you choose to use Photos

To uncheck the "keep sorted by date" view under the view menu select "keep sorted by date" and it will be unchecked - do it again and it will be checked

There is currently no option to sort ascending or descending - more any other significant sort options - only what is under the view menu - give Apple you suggestions and comments as I's sure there will be many new features in the coming days and months -

That is the wrong answer. If you look at the album "All photos" Keep sorted by date added" is checked and greyed out. This is unbelievable annoying becaue if you have two or three cameras the photos display in the order they were imported into Photos and not in the order in which the photos were taken or to put it another way by time stamp. Why under the view menu can't we have a dropdown list with different options, like date added, date taken, by camera etc etc.

No the answer was not wrong. The fact is that being able to sort other than Date Added in the All Photos window is not possible. That feature was left out of Photos.

Keep telling Apple what missing features you'd like restored or new features added in Photos via Apple-Photos Feedback.

The feedback is working as can be seen from the following paragraph in this Apple webpage: Apple OS X El Capitan.

Photos has been fine-tuned to make it even easier to manage your library. Now you can add a location to a single image or to an entire Moment. Naming your favorite people in Faces is faster with a streamlined workflow. You can also sort your albums — and the contents inside them — by date, title, and more.

Where are you looking, Lynne? As I mentioned above, "The automatic "Photos" view and the automatic "All Photos" album have fixed, predefined sort orders."

Expanding on that, the automatic "All Photos" album is in order by the date the picture was added to Photos, with the caveat that all pictures that came to Photos by migration from iPhoto are lumped together in "accidental" order (whatever order the migration encountered them).

Many people find that the default years/collections/moments organization of the automatic "Photos" view can be quite useful, but not everybody agrees, and not for all purposes. That's what user-defined albums with custom orderings are for.

As I also said above, "If you want to view your pictures in a different order, you will have to define your own album or smart album and sort that."
