Compilation settings for multiple items in iTunes 12

Hi

In iTunes 12.1, i'm not always able to manage multiple items from various artists to one compilation.

Sometimes the tick box shows a small horizontal line (as in the image below) and i can't unlock it: so these items still appear as different albums in iTunes ...

Any suggestions?? thanks!
