USB hard drive not showing up on Macbook

Hello,

I have an external USB hard drive that does not seem to like my MacBook Pro. The light comes on but nobody is home, I can even feel it whirring but it does not appear on the desktop, finder etc. It works fine on my PC and on my housemate's iMac. I have formatted it using every format available on the iMac, but the MacBook still thinks it does not exist.

Please help!
