Mail program trash full. how to get rid of e mails permanently?
MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
When I try to move items on my Mac I get this mess. “24126.emlx” couldn’t be copied to “Messages” because an item with the same name already exists. I had moved items from Thunderbird to Mac mail and now trying to delete stuff 6 years old completly.
I had stepped away for few, so I missed your 2nd post, so this may not be a final fix... but here goes anyway

In Mail, choose Mailbox > Erase Deleted Items > In All Accounts, and Mailbox > Erase Junk Mail....
There should be a way to set your Trash to empty on a schedule or at Quit. Choose the Mail > [Help] menu and search for " empty trash " should find exactly how.
