I had stepped away for few, so I missed your 2nd post, so this may not be a final fix... but here goes anyway


From an archived document: Mac OS X 10.6: Increasing disk space

In Mail, choose Mailbox > Erase Deleted Items > In All Accounts, and Mailbox > Erase Junk Mail.

...

There should be a way to set your Trash to empty on a schedule or at Quit. Choose the Mail > [Help] menu and search for " empty trash " should find exactly how.
