My yahoo email says to upgrade my browser.

I have an IMAC and my email keeps telling me to upgrade my browser which is Safari. I am afraid to do anything because I am a writer and have much ongoing thoughts in various documents and spreadsheets and fear losing them. Yahoo offers me an upgrade button. Do I simply push it. Here is their message to me.

You’re seeing Basic Mail because you’re using an unsupported Internet browser. Upgrade your browser

This is what is inside the about this imac. Model Name: iMac

Model Identifier: iMac11,2

Processor Name: Intel Core i3

Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz

This is my safari info.

Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10)

Back up your data and switch to a product such as Firefox; if you'd like a newer version of Safari, you need to upgrade the computer's OS.

Thanks for the response Niel. When you say upgrade my computer do you mean take it into the shop, or hit that button offered by Yahoo? Still confused. Not that I have to do it but how to do it. Not computer-wise Niel. Appreciate your input.

He means update the computer's operating system. Your iMac is from 2010, and is compatible with the latest version of Mac OS X. You can download it by opening the App Store on your Mac, and search for "OS X Yosemite."

HI stevejobsfan I did as you suggested but the Yosemite requires 8GB of available storage.

General Requirements

OS X v10.6.8 or later
2GB of memory
8GB of available storage

My imac looks to only have 4GB, so it doesn't look possible. You figure for $1600 it should last longer than three years.

The 8GB figure refers to free drive space, not RAM. To check this, choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu, select the internal drive, and then Get Info from the File menu.
