How do I import a video taken on a USA format in to FCP X

I have recently been given some footage on a memory stick which was taken by a friend in the USA, unfortunately my system does not recognise the format ?

Computer dom't care about PAL, NTSC (Secam - does it exist anymore?) ...

So, when your Mac cannot read a file, not because of the diff. frame rates (or US heritage) but due a different codec. Or a wrong format of the stick.

In Finder (not in FCPX), select the file and hit cmd-i

A window will pop-up, "Additional info" wiill telll us, the Codec...

should look llike this...
