In Yosemite all mail rules stopped working. Move grayed out. why?

I've had a dozen mailboxes that I filter specific return addresses to for decades. The rules have all stopped working. "Perform the following actions" is just a thin line, no actions available. In a couple of rules, the actions were available, but Move Message was grayed out. Could not filter . What has happened? Desperate; I MUST be able to filter my mail. Yosemite 10.10.2
