Lost Sound

I am working on videos on my MacBook Pro mid 2010 model. Mute is not engaged and the volume is all the way up. I'm running OS X Lion 10.7.5. Any ideas? I do know that I only have about 10G left on the hard drive and wondering if, since I loaded the video onto the laptop, it might have turned it off. It was working for while and just went silent.
