Run old macbook on new retina screen for video edit with fcp?

I have an old macbook pro (2009 not sure on the other specs.) The screen is dead but other than it works fine and it has fcp on it. Can I run it through the screen on my macbook retina osx 10.8.5 to use it for video editing? I have not bought new fcp yet. How do I do this?
