flashing charge indicator lights on iBook battery

Hi,

I have a battery (1.2ghz 12" iBook) that seems to be functioning properly (mostly), but it has a quirk. When the battery is installed in the computer and when the computer is connected to the AC charging adapter the charge indicator LEDs on the battery case will illuminate - three stay lit and the fourth flashes, regardless of the state of charge. The LED on the power adapter plug is always orange, regardless of state of charge. If the power adapter is disconnected from the computer the LEDs on the battery case turn off. If the power adapter is reconnected the LEDs on the battery case turn on.

I have reset the PMU (twice, just to make sure) and I have recalibrated the battery. Neither seemed to have any effect. I have a second battery that functions properly without any quirks, so I suspect the problem is not in the computer but in the battery itself. I am not overly concerned about this, but it has piqued my curiosity. If anyone has any thoughts I'd enjoy reading them.

Thanks

Note to self:

Well Ralph, you big dummy, if you had charged the battery a little longer, or looked at one of your other iBooks, you would have realized that they all do this. Once the battery is completely charged the flashing will stop, but rarely do you look under the computer while it is plugged in. The flashing is just an indication that the battery is being charged. There is nothing wrong with that battery.

P.S. I bet everybody got a good chuckle over that one.
