is it possible to minimize RAM usage by apps on computer

With less than one third of ROM used, my computer has suddenly slowed. I've run virus et al. scans and removed adware, but it's still become hard to use Mail, Safari & iTunes concurrently without one or more slowing way down or freezing. Do I need to jettison filed mail and music? (I'd prefer not.)

Thanks for your help!

I do not see anything offensive in your EtreCheck output.

is it possible to minimize RAM usage by apps on computer

No. The operating system gives the app what it asks for, and takes it away when other apps need the memory more, and reclaims it all when the app quits (or more likely puts it in inactive queue; a cache in case the contents of the memory are needed again, but will be released if something else needs the memory).

2GB is very light for Mac OS X these days. I would strongly suggest adding more RAM (a much as you can reasonable afford). Crucial.com and MacSales.com (OWC) are well respected Mac RAM vendors.

If you are using 3rd party apps that get frequently updates, such as the Chrome browser, or Firefox, it is possible that incremental updates slowly started to make them more resource intensive. Also web pages change their JavaScript and a web page you used in the past is not sending JavaScript that is more resource intensive than it was a few days ago.
