how to identify whether the charger or battery is bad?

I have a 2007 Macbook, and used it for once or twice per week, it works fine until this weekend, somehow, I can not charge it, it totally run out of battery.

Now, after search the answer, I realize it can be one of the two possible problem.

1. charger problem, it didn't have the light on.

2. battery problem, the battery can not be charged.

But, how I can identify which is the root cause of the problem, is the charger light not on means the charger is bad, or on the other hand, even the battery is bad, the charger light still should be on.

Last couple of month, I realized that the battery can not hold for long time, but not too bad.

Please share your experience here, thanks.

If the battery is over a year old, it may be the cause of failure.

You may be able to get several years out of the original battery

or a quality replacement, if your use is careful and considered

within the policies and instructions of how to care for battery.

Your useful battery life may vary depending on how the Mac

is used and if the computer was run until the battery went flat

or dead, that would have shortened the battery life even if the

system profile battery or energy section shows it has few cycles.

If the magsafe power adapter has dusty or dirty contacts, or if

they do not closely match and attach to those in the computer,

it may be that this would allow the battery to insufficiently charge.

You may still have to purchase a replacement battery from quality

source, to use with the computer. A spare magsafe is also suggested.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
