Q: Pages slow with larger files

Hi,

I am a photography student using "Pages" as a virtual sketchbook in order to document my exam work.

The pages file I am currently working on is 500mb and I have started to notice considerable response times especially when typing. I should note that these problems occurred over the course of a single day and before that it was functioning fine. I have followed the following steps already...

  1. Cleared Trash, Cache, add ons etc etc
  2. Launched Safe Mode (at which point the speed went from slow to super slow in this application)
  3. Completed an Apple Diagnostics (no problems detected)
  4. Launched Disc Repair from Startup (no problems detected)

Aside from splitting the document into smaller chunks which will be difficult as I often need to jump around and revisit older sections, is there anything I can do?

Thanking you in advance,

Lewis

    Hi Lewisjksshsgd,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like Pages is over 500 MB and is running slowly. It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

Save documents as a package or a single file in iWork for Mac - Apple Support

If you're working in Pages 5.5 or later, Numbers 3.5 or later, or Keynote 6.5 or later and have created a file that is larger than 500 MB, saving it as a package helps the app you're using perform better.

Open your file. Then choose File > Advanced > Change File Type and select the type you'd like to use.

    Cheers,

    Mario
