Suspicious Message?

Today, I received an odd text message. The text message was from the following account:

apple.verification.department@outlook.com

My thought is "why would apple use an outlook account for an email?"

The message said:

"Apple Verification: Apple has detected a suspicious sign-in to the iCloud account associated with this mobile device. Verify your device by responding to this alert with your Apple ID username & password. If no response is received, your account will be temporarily locked for security reasons."

Has anyone received an alert like this? Is it suspicious to you too?
