I have an iMac running OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite
All was well until yesterday. Then out of the blue this:
The shutdown and the restart founded under the Apple icon does not work. Any idea how to fix it?
If I use the keyboard short cuts they work.
I can creat a dummy account and it works.

I suspect you'll have to hold the power button in until the computer shuts down or unplug your computer.
Option-Shift-Escape will open the Force Quit menu and you might be able to see if one or two of your applications are causing your computer to hang. If that doesn't work, I think you'll have to force it to quit by using more drastic methods.
