Q: ARD won't connect to my PC over my LAN
I have ARD installed on my Mac (10.10 Yosemite) and am trying to remote control my PC (Windows 7) over my local network. My PC is running TightVNC server configured to accept incoming connections on Port 5900 with a password. But when I scan for computers in ARD or try to add a computer by its address, it asks me for a username and password which I don't know where to find. Thanks!

You can also try to rule out Apple Remote Desktop too, use a third party VNC client like Chicken of the VNC (or TightVNC's client).
http://sourceforge.net/projects/chicken/
That will allow you to see if the failure is with ARD or with the way VNC is setup for that PC. I suspect it is the latter, but you can rule out ARD too.
Have you tried testing a VNC connection to the PC on that PC. It seems odd & pointless, but it confirms the server is setup, running & accepting connections locally.
If you haven't done so already, see the docs on TIghtVNC setup…
http://www.tightvnc.com/doc/win/TightVNC_for_Windows-Installation_and_Getting_St arted.pdf
It should cover the service setup & user/password details etc.
