Page Header Columns?

If I go to print, I have access to the header and footer. These are broken up into what seems to be 3 separate columns. I don't want 3 columns and would like it to become a single column. I see when I click in the header, select text in the inspector, select layout inside of the text inspector, there is a section called columns. That said, it doesn't seem to do anything at all. Is there a way to work with this or the number of columns in any way?
