force restart not work ?

Recently I had a situation with the spinning beachball while in Safari.

After trying all the key combinations for a Forced Quit and the computer not responding at all, I powered off.

Powered on and all seems well.

Are there other/better options that I could have used other than the Power button?

I think the problem may be with Yahoo Messenger since I always get an error message when I Quit YIM and it was open when this happened.

OP back.

FWIW, I found out that the freezing happens using both Safari and Firefox when accessing a web site (lcdbuyingguide) that is trying to use some ".wmf" files (whatever those ares).

Whatever Safari and Firefox are doing it makes it very difficult to Force Quit Firefox and impossible, for me anyway, to Force Quit Safari.

Thanks for any suggestions on how to Force Quit in these situations.
