I have a Sony TRV-18 camcorder with many recorded miniDV tapes. I want to make sure that these tapes are stored (at highest possible quality) on my iMac (and backed up) should anything happen to the tapes. I would also like to be able to watch the content via my AppleTV (connected to a 1080P 55 inch TV) .

Are there any settings I need to change to do this or do I just import straight from the camcorder (via firewire), edit when I want to, and share movie with AppleTV ?

Or do I need to deinterlace the content anywhere in the process to make it look good through AppleTV? If that's needed to maintain max quality through AppleTV, can iMovie 10 (2015 version) do that or are there benefits going to FCP X?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.2)
